Paul Newman is a recognized expert in the environmental and brownfield industries for conceptualizing, developing, and implementing large, complex business solutions for managing environmental risk. He brings 30 years of experience as a legal, technical, and business leader, including long-term executive level engagements with two of the largest global environmental consulting firms. Paul was instrumental in building an industry-leading program for environmental risk assumption that transferred almost $1 billion of environmental remediation obligations; evaluating over 150 risk transfer opportunities for manufacturing, real estate, chemicals, aerospace, pharmaceutical, steel mills, metal mining/processing, oil and gas refining, railroad industries; and drafting, negotiating, and closing risk transfer contracts in excess of $250 million.

Paul was the leader of ARCADIS’ Commercial Guaranteed Remediation Program (GRiP). In his leadership role, he directed the development, contracting, and negotiating of guaranteed fixed-price remediation offerings. He worked closely with clients to develop a true value offering for shedding/transferring environmental risk. Paul partnered with insurance underwriters and brokers to place insurance products to enhance risk management of various risk transfer offerings. As an attorney, he also drafted, negotiated, and closed many of these comprehensive risk transfer agreements. At AECOM, Paul had a leadership role in developing and implementing large integrated service offerings for private sector clients for the firm’s Environment, Transportation, Water, Energy, and Building business lines in the US West Region.

Paul was recently a valued contributor to the brownfield redevelopment firm Frontier Renewal, where he provided risk management solutions to projects involving the purchase and redevelopment of contaminated properties.

Paul has managed facility closure programs at numerous natural resource facilities, including mine sites, mill sites, and petroleum refineries. In addition, Mr. Newman has considerable experience as a mining geologist, primarily in exploration and mining of uranium, coal, andprecious metals. Mr. Newman has been an Adjunct Professor in the Environmental Science and Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines (Applied RCRA Compliance) and the Environmental Management Program at the University of Denver (RCRA and CERCLA regulation).
